OUR VISION

PYSSUM cherishes the vision of time when people in our historical city of Lucknow truely start acknowledging every person with special needs as an individual having the right to live and enjoy her or his life like everyone else around them. We, at PYSSUM, wish to extend this vision to our beautiful state of Uttar Pradesh and take our efforts, small or big, to as far as we can in all parts of our great nation India.

PYSSUM is a non-profit voluntary organization focussed to serve the intellectually disabled individuals of the society through its own Guidelines, Objectives and Resources. All the activities or efforts at PYSSUM are planned by its own board of directors comprising of seven honorary members, namely, Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and four members at large. The board is also voluntarily guided by a governing body, comprising of voluntary members chosen by the consent of board of directors. For the day to day support towards all our activities at various centres namely PYSSUM Child Development Centre (PCDC), PYSSUM Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Centre  (PVTRC) or PYSSUM Research and Training Centre (PRTC), the PYSSUM board is represented by the Chief Functionary in voluntary capacity unanimously chosen by the board.

ABOUT US

WHAT WE DO

PYSSUM, being a progressive voluntary organisation takes great pride in organizing all in house or outdoor activities related to the intellectually challenged individuals within its reach with a highly professional approach. Essentially, we have three areas of services, firstly “Early Intervention” followed by Child Developmental Support for children with Developmental and Social Challenges in the age group up to 17 yrs.

This is done at PYSSUM School - a centre for holistic development and inclusive education.

Secondly, development of Vocational Skills, Training and Rehabilitation of adults with special needs above the age of 17 through PYSSUM Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Centre (PVTRC) and thirdly, training of those who are interested in serving the intellectual disability sector, through PYSSUM Research and Training Centre (PRTC).

All these centres are supplemented and supported by a good number of disability experts namely Special Educators, Speech Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Psychologists, Vocational Trainers, Administrators and Volunteers. Bringing awareness is one of major aims of PYSSUM through activities like the Anand Utsav – The Festival of Joy (Cultural and Sports), Exhibition cum Sale of the products prepared by PVTC trainees, Seminars and Workshops.

Dr Raghida Kamal
Our Founder

God Almighty and the merciful, must have been thinking something very special to happen in Lucknow when He inspired Dr Raghida Kamal and her family to be the founding force for PYSSUM’s journey of service to the People with Intellectual Disabilities. Dr Kamal, a long time spiritual disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda, was primarily inspired to work for Intellectually Challenged individuals due to her severely challenged brother Mr Kameel Kamal and undertook the bigger task of helping the individuals with special needs, adults in particular. She started Kamal Gardens (www.kamalgardens.org), where challenged adults are trained to develop vocational skills.

The zeal to serve God in her spiritual preceptor’s land India through the people suffering with Mental Retardation, Autism, CP, Down Syndrome and multiple disabilities, brought Raghida Ji to support the same cause in PYSSUM. Now on its firm feet PYSSUM family shall always be grateful to their exemplary efforts to guide all humanitarian ventures undertaken by PYSSUM’s functionaries.
